There is an algorithm of laboratory examination of children born to HIV-positive mothers. The algorithm is based on combined use of methods of enzyme immunoassay and polymerase chain reaction. The combination of these methods allows to make laboratory confirmation of the diagnosis of HIV-infection in children of 1 month old and born to HIV-positive mothers or to make confirmation about its absence in children of 6 months old.
