The authors of the manual discuss important clinical issues of palliative care for patients with AIDS. The issues being discussed are connected first of all to pain and other torturing symptoms, as well as to psychological and functional challenges patients face. There is description of types and frequency of pathological symptoms among patients with HIV-infection; brief review of principles to treat them; more details are given on etiology and algorithms to treat pain; analysis of challenges that arise during the process of adequate treatment of intensive pain among patients with AIDS.
